Global Safety Net
Biodiversity is on the brink of collapse, yet we lack a central “command center” to guide decision-makers, philanthropists, and the public to the most strategic places needing immediate conservation and restoration by region, country, and state.
The Global Safety Net (GSN) is an open-source science initiative that uniquely provides a regularly updated global assessment of land and marine areas. These areas can contribute to a robust, connected, and equitable distribution of conservation zones worldwide. It compiles numerous geospatial data sets to make science actionable and freely available to decision-makers.
The GSN offers a spatial inventory of unprotected lands and waters vital for biodiversity and climate regulation. It identifies and prioritizes areas critically in need of conservation and restoration while considering the social equity concerns of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities.
The Global Safety Net is an initiative of One Earth and RESOLVE, in collaboration with leading research institutions.
